ABSTRACT
This research work was aimed at assessing the quality of sachet and bottled water obtained from different water production companies in Sokoto metropolis, Sokoto state Nigeria. Sachet drinking water (often called pure water) may be generally accepted safe for consumption if it conforms to World Health Organization (WHO) and National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) standard. The physical and chemical properties usually assessed were pH, Total Dissolve Solid (TDS), Sodium, Potassium, Chloride, and Conductivity. Bottle and sachets water obtained from various companies in Sokoto were assessed to confirm their compliance with the standards. These parameters were determined by the methods adapted by WHO and NAFDAC. Table 2 shows the physical examination which indicated that, all the sampled water were registered with NAFDAC, but about 30 % of the sachet water had no manufacturing and expiry dates. Base on the reference in table 3.0, all the parameters results obtained in table 3.1 and 3.2 were within the guidelines of WHO for water quality. Therefore, after comparing tables 3.1 and 3.2 and 3.3 with table 3.0, the sachet and bottled water under these companies are good and healthy for human consumption and other domestic used. Keywords: Quality, Water, Assessment, Sachet, Physical, Chemical
