CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME AS CORRELATES OF SECONDARY SCHOOLS TEACHERS EFFICIENCY IN SOKOTO STATE: IMPLICATIONS FOR EDUCATIONAL ADMINISTRATORS

ABSTRACT
This study investigated the Continuing professional development programme as correlates of secondary schools teachers' efficiency in Sokoto State: implications for educational administrators, Nigeria. The research design employed was descriptive research, with all the secondary school teachers in Sokoto state as a population which consists of all the three thousand, seven hundred and thirty-six (3,736) teachers in the one hundred and sixty-eight (168) secondary schools, two hundred and sixty (260) teachers were selected as sample using Krejcie and Morgan table. The adopted version of the Continuous Professional Development and Teachers' Efficiency Questionnaire (CPDTEQ) was used for data collection. In contrast, frequency, percentages and the Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient were used in analyzing the data. After the analysis, the results confirmed that there is an in-service programme among secondary school teachers in the state; it also indicated that Staff meeting, cluster meeting, seminars and workshops are the most frequent in-service programme among teachers, and there is a significant relationship between continuing professional development programme and teachers' efficiency in Sokoto state.
