ROLES OF NON FORMAL SECTOR ORGANIZATIONS IN ACHIEVING SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS IN NIGERIA

ABSTRACT
Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and Community Based Organization (CBOs) otherwise known as non formal sector organizations, are organizations that falls in the middle that is between government public organization that provide goods and services on one hand and the corporate profit oriented organization on the other hand. Fowler (1992) call them third tier sector organization that clean up the loose welfare ends of the capitalist state. They exist to meet welfare demand of citizens where the state is unable to meet demand and the market has failed. Indeed. Non governmental organization and community based organization (NGOs and CBOs) engages in local welfare and youth service through voluntary actions to enable individuals and community cope with developmental challenges from, different spheres of life. This paper examine the different types of Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs), their historical evolution, their classified roles in sustainable development agenda, its attempt to bring the reasons for their upspring in the society.
